This is a delicious Sauvignon Blanc from Alysha and Lucy at Vino Idda, with the fruit coming from the Bass River vineyard in Gippsland. A small portion of the fruit spent two weeks on skins in an amphora, whilst the remaining juice was pressed straight to neutral oak and aged on full lees for 12 months. Lemon curd, passionfruit sorbet, and plenty of tangy grapefruit, with a subtle oxidative character and mealy texture from extended lees contact.

Widely seen as one of the most influential producers of Pinot Noir in Australia, Bill is credited with helping shift cultural attitudes toward more vibrant and pure examples of the variety. The 2020 Bull Swamp Single Vineyard Pinot Noir shows a little more weight and extraction than Bill's other cuvées, with smokey reduction that reveals a more brooding palate of blood plum, rhubarb, violet flowers, and allspice. There are some firm tannins pushing this cuvée into a more serious style of Pinot Noir, though not without Bill's trademark freshness and purity.

The 2020 Gippsland Pinot Noir is lifted and perfumed, with red cherry, pomegranate, cinnamon, and green peppercorn spice accentuated by fresh, early-picked acidity and grippy tannins.

This is a pure and lifted Pinot Noir from Gippsland's Fleet Wines, with the fruit coming from their vineyard in Leongatha. Tart cranberry, redcurrant, and soft spice, with a subtle whole-bunch element adding some herbal crunch. Silky tannins wrap the palate up nicely, and brisk acidity flowing through to a long, vibrant finish.

Wife and husband team, Lisa Sartori and Marcus Satchell, run Dirty Three wines from their quaint winemaking shed in the quiet South Gippsland town of Inverloch. The fruit from their wines come from three distinctive vineyards across the region, which together emphasise the diversity and quality that this bourgeoning region has to offer. Part three in a series profiling the vineyards in Dirty Three's portfolio, Dirt Three hones in on the Holgates Road Vineyard in Leongatha South. Contrasting with the rich volcanic soils of the other two cuvées in this lineup, the Holgates Road vineyard has very free-draining soil, made up of a mix of grey sand, gravel over clay, and coffee rock. It's the most structured and savoury cuvée in the lineup, too, with earthy sage, tart red berries, and herbal sap riding alongside firm, chewy tannins.

This is a gorgeous and expressive Pinot Noir from Bass Phillip, made in a more youthful style than their Estate cuvée but with plenty of depth and complexity. Red cherry and violet flower aromatics, with a succulent palate of stewed plum, rhubarb, sweet red cherries, and a light dusting of spice finishing with lively acidity and silky tannins to close.

This is a powerhouse of a wine, from one of Australia's most eminent producers of Pinot Noir. Biodynamically grown, it's a brooding and complex example of why this variety thrives in the terroir of South Gippsland. Black cherry, blood plum, white pepper, and subtle vanilla spice with elegant tannins providing delicate structure and length. An absolute knockout vintage of this wine!

There's also some classic fresh acidity that Bill is famous for, along with chalky tannins providing lovely texture and length.

The 2020 Manilla Single Vineyard Pinot Noir boasts a very light strawberry colour and shows plenty of early picked freshness on the palate. Tangy raspberries, redcurrant, orange essence, and allspice with some fine-boned tannins weaving throughout.

After the rocky year that was 2020, Dane and Hannah at Momento Mori decided to treat us all with a sequel to their affordable and ever-popular Fistful of Flowers cuvée. Taking the form of a chilled red this time, Etcetera Etcetera is a blend of Schioppettino 'Blanc de Blanc' & Syrah Rosé which were married together after spending a year and a half on lees. It's an energetic and floral wine, with notes of juicy plums, exotic fruits, and savoury spice with a gentle pull of powdery tannin.
