The Thompson family started Crawford River in 1975, and have since established themselves as one of Australia's most prolific winemaking families. The Estate Riesling is the family's flagship wine, having earned a reputation as being one of the best examples of Riesling in Australia. It's more structured and powerful than their Young Vines Riesling, coming from their original plantings of Riesling back in 1975. Deeper, more concentrated notes of lemongrass and rocky minerals show on the palate, with a savoury mealiness from extended lees contact. This wine is still in its infancy and will age spectacularly, however it is a fantastic experience in its youth for those who like a more intense style of Riesling.
